B.  Overview of This Document

Saying the Kalimah in the traditional manner and direction, which is with each of "us" separately trying to say the Kalimah starting with "La illaha" and ending with "Ill Allahu" verses starting to say the Kalimah by first invoking the "living presence of God" for our age, which is our Shaikh within us, and God within Him, in order to gather together the "Three of Us" - the Disciple, Shaikh, and God - within the "Three of God" within us, within - Ya Allah, Ya Rasul, Ya Muhaiyaddeen - within us, is something we must consider and look into, before it is too late.

In order to join as One with the "Oneness of God and True Man" within us, and to allow the 5 Kalimah's of God for our age, for the age of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), to naturally open and flow in the direction that returns us to the "Oneness of God and True Man" within us, from which we have all come, not to be forced to conform to a direction that reflect more our coming into the world, rather than
our leaving
the world.

What is contained in this document is an example, is one application of the true gift of God for our age, which is the life and teaching of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him, and of the gift within the true gift of God for our age, which is the life and teaching of the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each of Us), and is something we must all consider and investigate, my dearest loving brothers and sisters, before we die, and before our "outside" is prematurely destroyed.

And this document is offered as a help in considering this important wisdom point, and
if we like, in making this transition, from "working for wages to get into heaven" to
joining in partnership with our Shaikh within us, and with God within Him, from
continuing to "living in" the dream of the dunya, to starting to "leave" our life of
"separation and differences" that we are currently living with our brothers and sisters in
the world that we see in our collective ignorance as existing "outside" of us.

In order to complete what God and True Man have started within us, to reveal True Man
within the Creation of God within us, within the dunya or earth world within us, and to
reveal God within the Creation of True Man within us, which is akhirah or the hereafter
within us.  Revealing in this way, the "Oneness of God and True Man" within us, which
in truth is God and True Man within us.

May we all think about this a little.  This wisdom point is very, very important.  This
document explores this wisdom point in detail, through the life experiences of this
child, of Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler), living at the feet of Bawa
Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), and of God within Him, for 27 years.

1.  Introduction - to the History

In describing the history of Spiritual Prayer 02, "The 5 Kalimah's of Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.)" we will first provide a copy of a Spiritual Letter that was written to our dearest loving sister, Rumi Smith, on January 12, 2002, later becoming Spiritual Letter 11, and given the title, "Another View of The Five Kalimahs".  You can access this letter by clicking on the following: Spiritual Letters.  Once there, scroll down and click on Spiritual Letter 11.

This provides a good summary of the development of Spiritual Prayer 02 within this child, from the summer of 1975, when this child first met His Holiness, and was introduced to the following traditional Sufi Version of the First Kalimah, that was initially given to this child, and explained to me, by Muhammad Abdul Qadir (Michael Green), one of the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each of Us), and which was regularly performed by this child for many years, until as noted below in Spiritual Letter 11, His Holiness changed it, and continued to change it, as the Spiritual Life of this child moved forward, moved deeper and deeper within the heart of our Shaikh, and of God within Him, moving from the dunya to akhirah in the process.

          1)  Arabic Version - given to us by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.)

"La illaha, Ill Allahu, Muhammadar Rasulullah."

          2)  English Translation - given to us by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.)

"There is nothing other than God.  You are Allah.  Muhammad is the
                    Messenger of God."

Following a copy of Spiritual Letter 11,  we will provide an update to that letter, describing how Spiritual Prayer 02 has evolved from January 12, 2002, to today, February, 11, 2003, into the "Explicit English Version" and the "Equivalent Implicit Arabic and English Version" of, "The 5 Kalimah's of Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.)", given above.

2.  Copy of Spiritual Letter 11 - of  "Another View of The Five Kalimahs", that was
written to Rumi Smith on January 12, 2002

My love you, my dearest loving sister Rumi. The next time that you have the intention
to do the Kalimah, don't. Instead, say the word "Bawa", and let Him say it, let Him
complete that intention by saying within you whatever it is that He wishes to say within
you, to finish what He has started within you, so God can finish what He has started
within Him.

When this child did that, everything changed in my life. Before this child did that,
nothing had ever really changed in my life, it was just a dream of changing, a dream of moving through time, but no real movement on the path of God within me.

First when this child started to pray in this way, by saying the word "Bawa" before
saying a prayer, letting Bawa do whatever He wanted with the intention to pray, Bawa
said the Kalimah with me the way we have all learned to say the Kalimah. I would say
"Bawa", and Bawa would say, "La illaha". Then I would say "Bawa", and Bawa would
say, "Ill Allahu". This went on for many years and brought great peace to my heart.

Then again everything changed in my life, at the end of the Mauloud for Qutb
Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (Ral.) in 1996. When I said "Bawa" at the
beginning of the Kalimah, Bawa reversed everything, He started with "Ill Allahu", and
when I said "Bawa" the second time, Bawa then said, "La illaha".

At this point, I had to let go of everything I had ever learned, and I did it by trusting in
Bawa, and God within Him, not in what I had learned or did, or knew or was, or said or understood. I just said the word "Bawa" and then just waited for Bawa to say something, instead of jumping in with "my presence". Gradually, everything started to become "His Presence".

This went on for many years, then everything changed again, about 3 years ago, again
at the end of the Mauloud for Qutb Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (Ral.).
When I said "Bawa" the first time, with the intention to say the Kalimah, Bawa would
say, "Ill Allahu", then when I said "Bawa" a second time, Bawa would say, "La illaha",
but when I said "Bawa" a third time, Bawa said "Muhammadar Rasulullah".

Then a little over a year ago, at the end of the Mauloud for Qutb Muhaiyaddeen
Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (Ral.) 2001, everything changed again. When I said "Bawa" the
first time, with the intention to say the Kalimah, Bawa would say, "Ill Allahu", then
when I said "Bawa" a second time, Bawa would say, "La illaha", then when I said
"Bawa" a third time, Bawa would say, "Muhammadar Rasulullah", but when I said
"Bawa" a fourth time, Bawa said, "You are True Man".

And then after a few months of this, one day when I said "Bawa" a fifth time, Bawa
said, "He is One". And this is the current state of this child, of your loving brother
Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler), in partnership with "Bawa", and with God within Him, allowing Them to finish what They have started within this child, within all of
Thei
r Children, within the Children of God for this age, this age of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), and now of the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with each Us).

So in summary, the Kalimah for this child has become another view of the five
Kalimahs, has become a reflection of the Shaikh-Disciple Relationship, has become
the journey of the three back into the one, has become:

          1)  "Bawa - Ill Allahu" - Your are Allah,
          2)  "Bawa - La illaha" - There is nothing other than You,
          3)  "Bawa - Muhammadar Rasulullah" - Muhammad is the Messenger of God,
          4)  "Bawa - You are True Man",
          5)  "Bawa - He is One".

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar.

My love you (anbu) - Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler).

3.  How Spiritual Prayer 02 Has Evolved - both before and after January 12, 2002,
          until today, February, 5, 2003

Next we will provide a collection of experiences and observations by this child that may help us better understand the heart of our Spiritual Life in this age, for all of us living in this age, whoever or whatever we may claim to be, or believe, or know, to help us understand the heart of our Spiritual Life, which is the life and teaching of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him) both "inside" and "outside" of each of us, which is the gift of God for our age, and of the Children of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
(may God be pleased with each of Us, which is the gift
within the gift of God for this age, which is the last gift from God before the Final Destruction.

Which is the True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship for our age, which is learning how we live at the feet of God for this age, and receive His grace in this age, and receive His wisdom or light within His grace, and receive His help or 'lm or divine knowledge within His wisdom.

Which is learning how we join as One with our wisdom, and with the truth of God within our wisdom for this age, which is learning how we join as One with our Shaikh within us, and with God within Him for this age, becoming the Oneness of God and True Man within the Oneness of Triple Flame of God within us, becoming the Oneness of the "Three of Us" within the Oneness of the "Three of God" within us, of the Triple Flame of God within us, becoming the Oneness of the - Disciple, Shaikh, and God - within the Oneness of - Ya Allah, Ya Rasul, Ya Muhaiyaddeen - within us.

And in this way, and only in this, becoming the understanding of the Nur Muhammad within us, revealing Allah Muhammad or True Man within the Nur Muhammad within us, within the Creation of God within us, which is the dunya or earth world within us, the 18,000 universes within the sukun of the "mim" within us, within the circle on top of the letter "mim" within us, and in this way, making the "alif" the pillar of the sukun of the "mim" within us, allowing True Man within us to reveal God within the Creation of True Man within us, which is akhirah or the hereafter within us, "here" and "now" within us, and in this way, revealing the "Oneness of God and True Man" within us, which in truth is God and True Man within us.

Amen, Amen, Ya Rabil Alameen.  Amen, Amen, Ya Rahman Alameen.  Amen, Amen, Ya Rahim Alameen.  Al-hamdu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

My dearest loving brothers and sisters, may we all come to know this now, and start to act accordingly.

May God give us the grace of His wisdom to dispel all of the darkness of the world that has grown in our ignorance over our soul, making us into the "enemy of our soul", making us into a life of "separation and differences", a life of "separation from" God, of "separation from" each other, and of "separation from" the Creation of God within us, making us into a life of arrogance, karma, and illusion, which is our fate, our destiny, our karma, a life of ignorance that is in truth only leading us to the our own death, and to the Angel of Death, to the suffering of our grave, to Qiyamah (the Standing Forth; the Day of Judgment), and eventually to an eternal life of "separation from" God.

May God fill our hearts with His grace to dispel the "enemy of our soul" from within us, as He has allowed us to fill our hearts with His darkness, in order to nourish and grow the "enemy of the soul" within us, and in this way, reveal the house of wisdom within us, the original house of Adam (A.S.) within us, the Palace of the Soul within us, the house of Qutb Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (may God be pleased with Him) within us, and in this way, reveal True Man within the Creation of God within us, allowing True Man within us to reveal God within the Creation of True Man within us, revealing in this way the "Oneness of God and True Man" within us, which in truth is God and True Man within us.

Amen, Amen, Ya Rabil Alameen.  Amen, Amen, Ya Rahman Alameen.  Amen, Amen, Ya Rahim Alameen.  Al-hamdu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

4.  An Explicit English Version of "La illaha" - of "There is nothing other than
          God"

In the third volume of the book, "The Wisdom of the Divine", His Holiness teaches us
that when saying the first part of the Kalimah, the "La illaha - there is nothing other
than God", we should focus on the following reality of our current life,

          "There is no world,
          There is no body,
          There is no self,
There is nothing that is I."

Reading these words of wisdom from our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa
Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), one night at work years ago, my
whole life changed, and when a particular thought came into my mind to do something
at work, or to reflect upon something outside of work, like my wife, my house, my
children, this instruction by Bawa, would automatically came into my mind, like a
commandment directly from God, immediately weakening my connection to the world
that had literally grown around me, ever since I was a small child.  What a wonder.
Al-hamdu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

Gradually over the years these instructions from Bawa in the book "Wisdom of the
Divine" where surrounded by other instructions from Bawa, of a similar nature, in other
material from the life and teaching of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with
Him), the gift of God for our age, eventually becoming the following clarity, which was
and is repeated each day by this child, especially in the morning prayers performed by this child.

Allowing an understanding of this clarity to deepen and deepen with each recitation,
like a spring of clear water opening for the first time, and gradually widening and
widening to become a river of God's grace, bringing nourishment to all of the Creations
of God and of True Man within us, in both the dunya or this earth work, and in akhirah
or the hereafter within us.  What a wonder.  Al-handu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

An Explicit English Version of "La illaha":

"There is no world, there is no body,
there is no self, there is nothing that is I."

"All that you see is a dream,
All that you do is but a thought within that dream,
All that you appear as is hidden."

"Life is a feast of the world,
Its medicine is a time after a time."

For this child, this became an Explicit English Version of the first part of the more
Implicit Arabic and English Version of the First Kalimah, that we were given by Bawa, of the Arabic and English translation of  "La illaha - there is nothing other than God", that was initially given to us by Bawa.

An Explicit English Version which made the Kalimah first come alive for this child, and
became the mainstay of my Spiritual Life with Bawa, and with God within Him, from 1975, when we first met Bawa, until Bawa told me to literally call Him, before trying to pray, and we started to say the word "Bawa" before saying the Kalimah, inviting Him in this way, and God within Him, to say the Kalimah with "us", as "Us", and then joining as One with Him, and with God within Him, in the recitation of the Kalimah, which is the point in my Spiritual Life where Spiritual Letter 11, a copy of which was provided in the previous section of this letter, starts off.
                                                                                                                                  - go to outline
5.  How Bawa Saved Me From My Own Life - that was trying to kill me, by
teaching me to explicitly call out to my Shaikh, and to God within Him, by
explicitly saying the word "Bawa" before doing anything

But there was a lot about the Kalimah before that point in my relationship with Bawa, the point when we started to call Bawa, out loud, by saying the word, "Bawa", or "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen" or "Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen" (may God be pleased with Him), before saying the Kalimah, before saying my prayers, and gradually, before saying or doing anything.

So when did that happen, this explicitly calling out to Bawa, before doing anything?  That is a wonderful story which we will now share.

The Car Accident:

It all started with a car accident, a short time after the passing of His Holiness on December 8th, 1986, perhaps the following summer.  This child had stopped at a red light, when all of a sudden a large bread truck behind me didn't stop for the same red light, and slammed into the back of my small pick up truck, knocking off my kuffi or prayer hat, and giving me a good shock.  It turns out that the owner of the large truck that hit me was uninsured and needed my help, and after comforting him, and getting his telephone number, we both set off in our separate ways.

After recovering from the shock, we started to reflect upon what had happened, wondering what it meant, getting hit by a truck in that way, and finally asked Bawa, in my heart, for an  understanding of the significance of the accident.  What came was the understanding that we needed to look at the quotations in the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship Calendar, both in the current year, and for previous years, for an answer, and sure enough we came upon the following quotation, from the life and teaching of
Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
(may God be pleased with Him),

"Whatever happens to us is meant to correct us, to improve us. Any suffering
that befalls us is meant to help us to go one step forward. As long as we have
absolute certitude in God, then no matter what dangers, difficulties, troubles, or
suffering that comes to us, they will only make us move forward.'

"These things help us to progress, to move forward on the path. Never forget
your goal which is to reveal God. Therefore, if you receive a blow on the back
that is a signal to move forward some more, that is a sign to progress."

And that was exactly what had happened to this child, we had "received a blow on the back", and reading this quotation from His Holiness brought an incredible peace and comfort to my heart, which had been severely shaken up by the car accident.

What a wonder is this God our ours, His Messenger, His Rasul, His Dhat, His Resplendence, His Divine Luminous Wisdom, His Essence, His Prophet Muhammad
(Sal.), and the grace of His
Dhat, His Power or Action, His Qutbiyyat, His Divine Analytic Wisdom, His Qutb Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (may God be pleased with Him).

In this way, truly, there is no God but Allah, there is no Prophet but Muhammad (Sal.), and there is no Shaikh but Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.).  Al-hamdu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

The Dreams of Drowning:

Next came the "dreams of drowning", the dreams that gradually terrorized this child to the point that he did not want to go to sleep, for in each dream, in which we were always scuba diving, we were always coming closer and closer to drowning, to running out of air at a deeper, and then deeper distance from the surface.  Until finally, we knew somehow that the next time we went asleep would be our last.  Then everything changed, again because in part of the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship Calendar.

Because before we could go to sleep again, the month changed, and we read the next "quote of the month" for the next month, and it went something like the following,

"Call Me, before you do anything call Me, call Me by calling out the name
Muhammad (Sal.), or Jesus (A.S.), or Qutb Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.), but call Me."

That night we went to sleep, comforted greatly by the realization that no matter what happened in my dream that we could get out of any danger by simply calling Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be pleased with Him), and with that belief we went to sleep.

And dreamed that we were drowning, that we were scuba diving, and at a great depth from the surface we were running out of air, knowing full well that there was not enough time left to swim to the surface, and instead, for the first time, we simply accept our fate, accepted the fact that we were going to drown.  Then in the dream, we remembered what we had read in the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship Calendar, and immediate called out the word "Bawa".

And in the dream, we shot out of the water like a rocket and landed on the shore, and with me was Bawa, and He started to talk to me, and said to me,

"Whenever any of My Children truly start to walk the path of God within
themselves, whenever any of My Children truly start to become exalted within
themselves, their entire life will rise up to kill them.  And that is what has
          happened to you."

"I will now give you something to deal with this problem."

"You have been trying to do the Kalimah (La illaha, Ill Allahu), first by doing it
without Me (1), and then by doing it within You (2), but now you must join with
Me to do the Kalimah together.  Only then will the power of God come to bear
upon this problem, of your own life trying to kill you."

"Therefore, from now on, We will say the Kalimah together in the following way."

"First, start the Kalimah, by calling Me to come and say the Kalimah, by saying
My Name, by saying, "Bawa", and then I will come and say, "La illaha".

"Then again say My Name, say, "Bawa", and then I will come and say,
          "Ill Allahu".

And in the dream we started to say the Kalimah in the way Bawa had instructed, in the following way,

"Bawa, La illaha (There is nothing other than You)"
"Bawa, Ill Allahu (You are Allah)"

And we woke up saying the Kalimah in that way, and we started to recite the Kalimah during the day in that fashion, with Bawa, by calling on Bawa to come and say the
Kalimah
, and in this way joining with Him to say the Kalimah, by saying the word, "Bawa", before saying each part of the Kalimah, by saying the word, "Bawa" and then saying "La illaha", followed by the word, "Bawa", and then saying "Ill Allahu", with the belief that this child and Bawa, and God within Him, were saying the Kalimah together, as One, as the One life within all of us.  Al-hamdu lillah.  Allahu Akbar.

(1)  Trying to do the Kalimah alone, without Bawa, is the traditional way of doing the
Kalimah,
by trying to perfect our own saying of the Kalimah, by trying to perfect the movement of our breath both in and out of our body, through our concentration and focus, and in this way, tryng to perfect the art of the moon (saying, La illaha) and the
art of the sun
(saying, Ill Allahu) by controlling our breath.

This is what this child first tried to do when saying the Kalimah, and this is what Bawa was referring to when He said to me in my dream,

"You have been trying to do the Kalimah (La illaha, Ill Allahu), first by doing it
          without Me."
                                                                                                                                  - return to text
(2)  Trying to do the Kalimah without us, without ourselves, by getting Bawa to do it for us, within us, is another possible step in trying to do the Kalimah, this time trying to use the  Shaikh-Disciple Relationship to do the Kalimah.  This is what this child next
tried to do, which grew out of the following instruction from Bawa, that Bawa gave to us right before He died.  More on this point follows.

Right before Bawa died Bawa told us that when He physically left the world He would go into our hearts, into the hearts of all of His Children, which is all of us living in the world today, and that having left His physical body He would then be better able to deal with all of the things within us that needed to be dealt with.

However, for us to become successful in our life, by taking advantage of this new arrangement between us and Bawa, after Bawa physically left the world, for it to work properly within us, with Bawa living within our heart but no longer physically with us, we would have to explicitly task Him to do the things that needed to be done within us, that we realized through His life and teaching that needed to be done within us, for our life to turn out properly.

After Bawa's death, after He physically left the world, and went into our hearts, this child tried to apply this instruction by Bawa to the saying of the Kalimah.  As a part of this effort, we spent a lot of time reflecting on the proper thing to task Bawa to do within us, and finally came up with Bawa saying the Kalimah within us, for us.  Then, having come to this conclusion, we very formally said to Bawa within us,

"Bawa, Your work within me is to say the Kalimah".

This is what Bawa was referring to when He said to me in my dream,

"You have been trying to do the Kalimah (La illaha, Ill Allahu), first by doing it
without Me, and then by doing it within You."
